Techno does not lie. There is no singer to distract you. No lyrics to misinterpret. No image to sell. Just a kick drum, a bassline, and a groove.
Techno is functional music. It is made for dancing. If it does not make you move, it failed. You cannot fake that.
The best techno tracks are minimal. A kick, a hi hat, a bassline, and one or two other elements. Anything more is clutter. The art is in knowing what to leave out.
Techno works because it is repetitive. The repetition creates a trance state. Your brain stops thinking and starts feeling. That is the point.
Detroit created techno. Black producers in the 80s imagined a future where machines made music and humans danced to it. That future arrived and it sounds exactly like they predicted.
Listen to a good techno set with your eyes closed. Feel the kick drum in your chest. Let the hi hats carry you. That is honesty.
